Why Choose Carpentry?

Carpenters build most buildings, whether they are made of wood, metal, or concrete. Carpenters are in high demand. There is a need for more skilled carpenters in Florida, the southeast, and nationally. That means significant opportunities for men and women who are smart enough to learn a skill.

For every four people who retire from the carpentry trade, only one new person is being supplied by current apprenticeship programs. At Community Carpentry USA, we want to help change that. They are introducing carpentry to young adults so they can have options. We want to help young adults construct a brighter future.

What Does a Carpenter Do?

A carpenter works with wood and other materials to construct and maintain buildings. Carpenters also erect scaffolding, build roof trusses and create wooden forms for pouring concrete for high-rise buildings, industrial plants, tunnels, bridges, or other projects. Carpenters read blueprints and read instruction manuals. Carpenters wear nail aprons to carry their hammers and other hand tools. Carpenters use power saws to cut wood or metal. Drills to connect wood or metal and other specialty tools like carpenter's levels, framing square or plumb bob.

Other reasons to consider the carpentry trade are population growth, deteriorating infrastructure, and aging buildings, which will generate employment growth in the construction industry. Job opportunities are expected to be excellent for carpenters with the most experience and skill. The construction industry's wage and salary positions will grow by 20% through 2021.

Earnings in construction are higher than the average for all other industries. There is plenty of money. Construction is a multi-billion-dollar industry.

The average wage of a professional carpenter is $25.00 an hour, which comes up to $40 - $70, 000.00 a year.

To become a carpenter, you need common traits that most people are born with solid hand-eye coordination, problem-solving skills, good balance, attention to detail, essential reading and math, and readiness to learn.
